Exams

level of technique, spatial awareness, control, intention and safety.

Basic Level
|
|
|
Stage Combat at Basic level is a great introduction for
those students with no or little experience. It is also useful as
a refresher for those who have not studied for some time and may be a
little rusty. The weapon options at basic level are
Unarmed,
Single
Sword; Rapier & Buckler; Rapier & Dagger; Broadsword &
Shield; Broadsword; Rapier & Guantlet; Knife; Gladius &
Shield; Baton,
Quarter Staff, Case of Rapiers.
Good
training takes time and you shouldn't always rush to move onto the
next level. We offer basic level exams in a number of weapons
(something that is not in practice for any other exam board), this
gives you time to hone your skills and techniques, become a more
confident combatant and continue your training at a level that is
suited to you.
If
you take a basic exam in ten weapon systems you qualify to be an
'Actor Combatant at basic level'. This gives you recognition in
the industry that you have studied and understand many weapon systems,
giving you more opportunities in the acting profession.

|
Intermediate Level |
|
|
In
order to continue onto intermediate level you must have been examined
in single sword, unarmed and a rapier & companion system at basic
level.
You must have also performed an exam using a script that is pre
1930's.
A higher level of understanding
and more in-depth detail to technique and performance is required at
this level and the weapon syllabus is expanded. As well as all
the weapons previously mentioned you can also take intermediate exams
with Rapier & Cloak; Rope & Knife; Spear.
As
with the basic level, if you chose to study the whole syllabi and are
examined in ten weapons at this level, you could become an 'Actor Combatant,
Intermediate'. Once again increasing your credibility as a performance
combatant.
|
|
Advanced |
|
|
This is the highest level of training and therefore requires good
previous knowledge of the weapons studied as well as a strong, clean and
consistent technique. Before moving to this level you must have a
minimum qualification of Intermediate with three weapon systems, one of
which must be
either broad sword or staff and performed an exam with a published text
from either theatre, film, television, radio or a book adaptation.
As before the weapon choice is expanded to
include Nunchuka; escrima stick; sai and many more.
To become 'Actor Combatant at advanced level'
you must complete 10 weapons from the advanced syllabus.

| Specialisation |
|
| One Weapon
Specialisation is for those students who excel in Stage Combat and
wish to continue their training at a high level. Any weapon can
be studied. |
